Conservation in Kittery
There are a stunning variety of land uses within Kittery's 18 square miles (12,000 acres). While the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Kittery Outlets are nationally-known focal points, much of our community revolves around the beautiful and ecologically valuable fresh and salt waters, pristine wetlands, bold islands, abundant forests, and working farmlands.

Local, state and Federal government agencies have worked with non-profit organizations and private citizens to conserve over 1,000 acres in Kittery, but much work remains to save more of the community’s special places for future generations.
KLT manages nearly 400 acres of conservation lands across Kittery through fee ownership and easements. Not all conservation lands are the same, and the overview provided here describes the range of public access. If you have any questions about KLT lands please email us at stewardship@kitterylandtrust.org
