Volunteer Spotlight

Deborah Martin

Deb Martin

As a board member from 2005 to 2008, Deb Martin's experience at the Environmental Protection Agency was pivotal in helping KLT develop and refine its core mission and strategy. When the board re-evaluated its priorities in the fall of 2007, Deb led the process of coalescing the individual board members' motivations into a sharper definition of KLT's function, focus and immediate goals.

Figuring prominently on the Stewardship Committee, Deb also spearheaded the design and writing of management plans for every KLT property. And she was also an enthusiastic presence during annual property clean-ups—perhaps most notably at the 2005 Thompson Property clean-up, when a dozen KLT members and volunteers hauled away several tons of discarded, rusted metal to be recycled.

But among her many accomplishments during her tenure at KLT, what will likely be most remembered by the Kittery community is Deb's tireless work to secure the conservation of the Fairchild Property on Chauncey Creek—one of the most pristine and beautiful waterfront parcels remaining in Kittery. As one of the "Troika" of KLT board members (including Ken Fellows and Alex Dearborn) who took on the challenge of the half-million dollar capital campaign, Deb's efforts in community outreach and fundraising were instrumental in raising the resources necessary to complete the project and secure the conservation easement.

Since leaving KLT, Deb has traveled extensively, pursued certification to teach English as a foreign language, and continued to serve her local community at the Table of Plenty Community Meal. Kittery Land Trust thanks you, Deb Martin, for your participation and hard work. Your generosity and contributions to the greater Kittery community will be enjoyed by future generations yet to come.

Thank you, Deb Martin, for your generosity and hard work.
